Our Middle School learners took their geography studies to the next level this week! By transitioning from 2D maps to 3D models, they completed an in-depth study of coastal contours. Using specific sections of our beautiful local coastline, students meticulously modeled terrain to visually represent different elevations. This hands-on process allowed them to identify and "feel" the landforms that define our region. Seeing abstract concepts turn into tangible, beautiful work is a hallmark of the Middle School experience at Newberry House.

Newberry House was well represented at the recent Blouklip Trail Race, held at the foot of the Helderberg. The longer routes started at Waterford Estate and dropped into our very own Lourensford valley. Well done to one of our learners, Rachel Cadel, and our Head, Alistair Green, who both podiumed in their respective women’s 8km and men’s 21km events. A big thank you as well to the Newberry trail running community who volunteered at the Lourensford water points. A big shout-out to race organiser @Alfred Thorpe from @Runventures, who also plays a key role in facilitating our annual Newberry Middle School hike on Lourensford. A true example of a community pulling together in pursuit of a healthy, outdoor lifestyle. #NewberryHouse #BlouklipTrailRace #TrailRunning #OutdoorLearning #CommunityInAction #HealthyLifestyle #Lourensford @snapshotphotographyza @peterkirkmedia

At Newberry House, Experience is a core philosophy. We believe true understanding comes from authentic engagement, which is why our 3E’s model—Education, Environment, and Experience—takes learning far beyond the classroom. This week, our trail runners headed into the heart of Lourensford Estate. By navigating the farm's diverse terrain, our learners aren't just building fitness; they are developing the independence, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills needed for the real world. Beating the Heat! ☀️ With the Somerset West heatwave in full swing, the "Experience" wouldn't be complete without a reward. Nothing beats the pure joy of a post-run cooldown in the dam!

Huge congratulations to Heike on her incredible dance achievements! Not only has she been named a Theatre Dance Association Ambassador for her leadership and dedication, but she also participated in the World Dance Movement in Castellana Grotte, Italy last year! 🇮🇹 Heike represented South Africa and Outline Dance Centre on the world stage, learning from global choreographers and experiencing dance in the heart of Europe. Heike, your growth in confidence and character is an inspiration to us all. We are so proud of the way you represent the Newberry spirit of excellence! 🌟

Last weekend, Newberry House was represented in Antarctica — if only for a brief 10 hours. Alistair Green, Head of Newberry House, was invited to support the @UltimaAntarcticExpeditions team for the first leg of the World Marathon Challenge, where athletes run 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. The team was led by @always.face.east, who previously shared his Antarctic experiences with our learners. After a six-hour flight from Cape Town, the team landed at Ultima Base at 2am — in full daylight. A few hours were spent assisting with marathon preparations and supporting the athletes, with an opportunity to run a section of the course. The visit offered a glimpse into the level of preparation, teamwork, and support required to perform in such a demanding environment. It also echoed a core Montessori principle we value deeply at Newberry: when adults and environments are thoughtfully prepared, meaningful experiences can unfold - whether running a marathon in Antarctica or developing lifelong learners.
Walk our campus, meet our teachers, and see Montessori in action. Tours run weekly throughout the term, we'd love to welcome you.
